External Examiner – BSc(Hons) Occupational Therapy

Opening Date:
13 May 2019
Closing Date:
19 Jul 2019
Salary Range:
Region:

We seek an external examiner for our four year, part-time, pre-registration BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy course and degree apprenticeship. This popular course, taught using problem-based learning, had a recent very successful periodic review at which the apprenticeship was validated and accredited. The vacancy arises as a current external examiner is approaching the end of his four-year term.

The University of Brighton offers extensive support for external examiners and holds annual workshops. Further support is also provided by the Course leader and the Academic Lead for the Occupational Therapy Programme. The University normally expects external examiners to attend a minimum of one examination board per year, typically the summer board in July.

The role will involve examining across a range of Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 academic and practice placement modules, working alongside the current examiner. It is desirable for applicants to have experience of problem-based learning and/or part-time course teaching/ leadership, but not essential.

Applicants are advised that the University applies the following criteria to external examiners:

  • The area of expertise of external examiners is within the area of examinations undertaken;
  • Applicants should have recently been employed (or are still employed) within a university appointment;
  • He/she must not have been a University of Brighton examiner within the last five years;
  • He/she will have a recognised Occupational Therapy qualification, and be Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered.

Commencement Sept 2020 for a period of 4 years
