The School of Healthcare is seeking to appoint an external examiner in the above subject areas for the 2015/2016 session.
The appointee will be one of a team of external examiners for the pre-registration adult nursing curriculum and will also take cross-School responsibility for the multi-disciplinary undergraduate research modules.
We are seeking to appoint an individual who has a master’s degree (and ideally has or be working towards a PhD); a strong background in pre-registration nursing and health care education and undergraduate healthcare research; and a track record of publishing or scholarly activity in these areas.
The tenure of appointment is for a period of one year in the first instance, normally followed by a further three years. All external examiner appointments are subject to approval by the Faculty Taught Student Education Committee. The School holds an annual induction event for new external examiners to familiarise them with the University’s assessment process and to enable them to meet the programme team.
There is a two tier examination board system comprising of Module Assessment Boards and School Progression and Awards Board (SPAB). All external examiners are full members of these committees and are required to attend at least one meeting of the SPAB per year and be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues.
The School uses GradeMark to mark assignments and the external examiner will be required to view students’ work and markers’ comments on-line.
