We are seeking to appoint an experienced External Examiner for the established pre-registration BSc (Hons) and new MPhysio (Hons) integrated masters programmes. This is based within the School of Health Professions and Faculty of Health at the University of Plymouth, the largest provider of health education in the South West, with programmes ranging from nursing to medicine and allied health professions. The full-time undergraduate physiotherapy programmes (BSc = 3 years; MPhysio = 4 years), lead to eligibility to register with the Health and Care Professions Council, along with a 2-year pre-registration MSc due to start in September 2021, furthering our commitment to excellence and choice. The first year of both programmes are identical, with slight differences in year 2 and 3 to reflect the progression to Masters level research on the MPhysio programme.

The appointee will act as a Subject External for the BSc and Award External for the MPhysio programme. This position requires the external examiner to be a HCPC registered Physiotherapist who is also a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

The appointment will start immediately for a period of 4 years and the commitment required is as follows:

  • To review a range of coursework and assessments (e.g. videos of OSCEs) throughout the year
  • To attend an assessment panel per year and the submission of an annual external examiner report.
  • To engage in communication with the programme team
  • To carry out at least one interim engagement per year (which may take the form of a ‘virtual’ visit by video conference/Skype in recognition of the logistical difficulties presented by Plymouth’s geographical location) and at least one face to face visit during the term of office to obtain feedback from staff and students on assessment in practice and to strengthen their engagement with the ongoing teaching and learning process.

All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for appointment. If you would like to be considered for this role, please submit a CV by email to health-extex@plymouth.ac.uk by 06/12/20, or for further information about the role email:
