The School of Healthcare is seeking to appoint an external examiner for its cross-School bio-science modules for the 2017/18 academic session and, if appropriately qualified and interested, to also work as part of a team of external examiners for the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) programme.
The appointee will primarily have cross-School responsibility for the bio-science modules at Level 1 (30 credits) and Level 5 (15 credits).
We are seeking to appoint an individual who has a master’s degree (and ideally has or is working towards a PhD); a strong background in the biosciences and ideally adult nursing; and a track record of publishing and scholarly activity. Applicants interested in working with the adult nursing programme should also have current registration with the NMC.
The tenure of appointment is for a period of one year in the first instance, normally followed by a further three year period. All external examiner appointments are subject to approval by the Faculty Taught Student Education Committee. The School holds an annual induction event for new external examiners to familiarise them with the University’s assessment process and to enable them to meet the programme team.
There is a two tier examination board system comprising of Module Assessment Boards and School Progression and Awards Board (SPAB). All external examiners are full members of these committees and are required to attend at least one meeting of the SPAB per year and be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues.
The School uses GradeMark to mark assignments and the external examiner will be required to view students’ work and markers’ comments on-line.
