The School of Allied Health and Community at the University of Worcester is seeking an External Examiner for:
BA (Hons) Applied Health & Social Care Top-up Degree (Level 6 study only)
This is a one year full-time, two year part-time programme that provides extension and progression from Level 5 study. A majority of applicants entering the Top-up degree are foundation degree students who have successfully completed Level 5 study at the University of Worcester or one of the university’s partner colleges.
The course is well established and recruits 25 to 35 students each year. Some course modules are offered as option modules through other university courses and the course also holds responsibility for a 30 credit dissertation module offered by the Department of Health and Well-being. Although this adds some complexity to the role, the External Examiner duties are modest in comparison to those of a full three year BA programme.
Interested applicants must have relevant knowledge and experience in social care, social or youth work or a similar field. In addition the successful applicant will have experience of teaching, course management and quality assurance practice in a higher education setting.
The role requires external moderation of assessments, attendance at the Boards of Examiners and completion of an Annual External Examiners Report. Course changes and developments are also referred to the external examiner for comment.
The course promotes an ethos of professionalism and professional identity within social care by supporting and enabling students to develop as practitioners, managers and leaders within this sector. The course is administered by an experienced course leader supported by a teaching team with broad social care and health experience and interest.
The post holder will be appointed from September 2020 and the position will be held for up to five years. The appointee will be receive detailed background information and course documentation. An induction programme is provided by the University of Worcester to familiarise new External Examiners with the university’s systems and procedures.
