MSc/PgDip/e-PgCert in Professional and Higher Education

We invite applications for the role of External Examiner for the MSc/PgDip /e-PgCert in Professional and Higher Education at Queen Margaret University (QMU), Edinburgh. The e-PgCert is accredited by the Higher Education Academy (for Associate Fellowship and Fellowship) and the NMC (Teacher award). Therefore, the External Examiner is expected to be experienced in the field of HE, a Senior or Principal Fellow of the HEA and a registered Nurse Teacher with the NMC. They should be educated to Masters level as a minimum.

This course is for people who facilitate and support the learning of students at Higher Education level (SCQF Level 7 or above) within University, College, or the workplace). It is a dynamic, interactive and work-related programme. Core modules include: Education in Action A & B, Curriculum Development, Introduction to Learning with Technologies, Evidencing Practice in Professional and Higher Education, Current Issues, Research Methods, Research project / dissertation. The e-PgCert is offered online. All modules use QMU’s VLE (BlackBoard).

Duties will involve:
membership of the Board of Examiners, and participate fully in the decision making process
review the work of all students recommended for failure and sample student work from each category of award
assess and comment on draft examination papers and guide marking schemes
provide feedback on aspects of good practice and innovation
submit an annual report for each programme or stand-alone module(s) examined
moderate the work of the internal examiners to ensure quality.
