Following today’s Spring Budget announcements from the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Ed Hughes, Chief Executive of the Council of the Deans of Health said:
“Today’s Budget reiterates the centrality of the long term workforce plan to securing a sustainable NHS.
Our members are delivering the next generation of healthcare professionals. They support the retention and retraining of current NHS staff, driving up productivity and delivering for patients. Members of the Council of Deans of Health also contribute significantly to the UK’s world-leading research in healthcare and in developing future research leaders. We welcome today’s announcement in the Budget of £45m of additional funding to the medical charities’ early career researchers support fund.
To achieve the ambitions for a productive and innovative health care system set out in the Budget , the NHS and universities must work closer together to educate and expand the future health workforce, explore further regulatory reform and work on joint approaches to areas of shared interest, mentioned in the Budget, like utilising AI in education, research and practice.”
