The Council of Deans of Health has announced the appointment of a new Board of Trustees. Professor Brian Webster-Henderson, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Health, Environment and Innovation) at the University of Cumbria, has been appointed for a second term as Chair alongside a new board of twelve trustees as the Council identifies itself as a registered charity.
Professor Webster-Henderson said:
“I feel very honoured to have been appointed for a second term as Chair of the Council at this important stage of its history. The role of the Council has never been more important as we continue to work to place higher education at the heart of healthcare policy. The next year will see the Council continue its journey to becoming an independent charity with a new governance model that will support its continued growth. I look forward to working with the new Board of Trustees as we develop the future strategic direction of the Council”.
The new trustees, six drawn from the Council’s membership and six independent trustees, assumed their roles on 1 August 2020.
Dr Katerina Kolyva, Executive Director of the Council, commented:
“The Council’s existing governance model has served it well over the first 23 years of its history and I would like to thank the outgoing Transitional Board for their work in taking the Council forward. With the growth in the Council’s size and influence it is now timely to move to a new governance model and welcome a new Board of Trustees that will bring the necessary expertise and experience to support its future development”.
Professor Carol Curran, Chair of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee, said:
“We had an incredibly strong field of candidates for both chair and trustee roles and I feel confident that the appointments we made will provide the Council with strong and strategic leadership over the coming years”.
