The Council of Deans of Health has welcomed the confirmation of a bursary extension for final year nursing and midwifery students in Scotland, until the end of December 2020. After collaboration with our members in Scotland, Health Boards and Scottish Government, Professor Fiona McQueen has confirmed that current financial support will be extended to eligible final year students who still have placement time to complete as part of their nursing and midwifery programmes.
Responding to this announcement, Professor Fiona Coutts, Convenor of the Council of Deans of Health Scotland, said:
“The pandemic has been a challenging time for all our students, but we understand it has been especially worrying for those in their final year who have been unable to continue their degrees. This confirmation is therefore very welcome as having financial support in place will allow students to complete their programmes and become registered professionals. Universities in Scotland continue to work hard to support all their healthcare students and to ensure they face no financial detriment during this difficult time.”
