Responding to the Government’s announcement of support for universities in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Katerina Kolyva, Executive Director of the Council of Deans of Health, said:
“I am glad the Government has recognised the significant contribution universities are making to tackling the Covid-19 outbreak and the huge impact that this pandemic is having on the sector. Universities will need additional support to sustain the sector and I know that the package announced today will be carefully analysed by Vice Chancellors over the coming days”.
Responding to the announcement that nursing and allied health courses will not be subject to the same number caps as other courses in higher education, Dr Kolyva said:
“I am particularly pleased that the Government has recognised the ongoing need to grow the healthcare workforce. We are seeing a surge of interest in healthcare careers and it would be heartbreaking to have to turn anyone away from a healthcare course because of a tight cap on student numbers”.
