The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has today published Shaping the Future, its draft strategy for 2020-2025. The Council of Deans of Health welcomes the collaborative approach the NMC is taking to create this strategy and will ensure the views of the education sector are fully represented throughout the consultation. The Council will be holding a strategic roundtable with the NMC during the consultation period and working with members to provide a written response.
Dr Katerina Kolyva, Executive Director of the Council, who spoke at the launch of the consultation, commented:
‘We are looking forward to engaging with our members and the NMC on this significant consultation. Education is a critical means of ensuring safe and effective care for patients and is central to the work of the NMC. This is a great opportunity for universities and other stakeholders in health and education to consider the NMC’s priorities for the coming years. As the NMC develops its future strategic focus, universities should be considered as key partners to the NMC’s evidence and intelligence analysis in addition to our current relationship of developing standards and assuring the quality of education of healthcare professionals’.
