12 December 2018

The Council of Deans of Health has welcomed Dr Ruth May as the new Chief Nursing Officer for England. Dr May has been executive director of nursing at NHS Improvement since its creation in April 2016.

Professor Brian Webster-Henderson, Chair of the Council which represents UK university faculties engaged in education for nursing, midwifery and the allied health professions, said:

“We look forward to working with Dr May in her new role. This is a critical time for nursing in England. CNO engagement with universities on nurse recruitment and education, continuing professional development and research is vital. We know that Dr May understands the importance of education and research to the workforce and we are confident that the Council’s relationship with the CNO’s office will thrive under her leadership”
